KET test for bicycle and electric scooter drivers
What is a bicycle?
According to Law on safe traffic, A bicycle - a vehicle with at least two wheels, driven by the muscle power of the person riding it, using pedals or handles. Wheelchairs are not classified as bicycles.
Motor bike - a vehicle with at least two wheels, propelled by the muscular power of the person riding it, using pedals or handles, and equipped with an auxiliary internal combustion engine or an electric motor with a maximum useful power of not more than 1 kW and a maximum design speed of not more than 25 km/h. The auxiliary motor stops working when the vehicle reaches a speed of 25 km/h. Wheelchairs are not classified as motorcycles.
When is cycling allowed?
There is no age limit for cyclists in the residential area and in the courtyards of apartment buildings, on bicycle and pedestrian paths.
From 8 years is allowed on the roads ride only under adult supervision.
On the roads you can ride a bike from the age of 12, if:
- you have attended a training course on cycling at school;
- you have passed a special KET test (exam) for cyclists.
It is allowed to prepare for this exam independently. After passing this test, the school will issue a cyclist's license.
From the age of 14 is allowed on the roads ride without a cyclist's license.
What is an electric micromobility device (e-scooter)?
According to Law on safe traffic:
Electric micromobility device - a single-person electric vehicle (electric scooter, electric skateboard, electric balance unicycle, roller, etc.) with a maximum useful power of no more than 1 kW, a maximum design speed of no more than 25 km/h, and a reference point height of the seat, if equipped, of no more than 540 mm. Wheelchairs are not classified as electric micromobility devices.
From what age is it allowed to ride an electric micromobility device (electric scooter)?
An electric micromobility device may be ridden on bicycle paths, bicycle lanes, roadsides, driveways, residential areas at least 16 years old individuals, and at least 14 years old for individuals - only those who have listened A training course set by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and hold a certificate issued by the school.
In the yard of a residential house there is no age limit for persons riding an electric micromobility vehicle, however younger than 10 years persons must be supervised by an adult.
Where can you ride an electric micromobility (electric scooter)?
Driving an electric micromobility device (electric scooter) is allowed only on bicycle paths, pedestrian and bicycle paths or bicycle lanes, and where there are none, on a suitable asphalt or concrete roadside.
When there is no bicycle path, pedestrian and bicycle path, or there is no bicycle lane or curb on the right side of the road, as well as in cases where it is not possible to drive on them (potholes and the like), it is allowed to drive on the sidewalk or one row in the right lane of the carriageway, as close as possible to its right edge, with the exception of the cases specified in Clause 106 of the Rules, as well as when it is necessary to go around an obstacle, drive straight, when only turning to the right is allowed from the first traffic lane.
When driving on the curb, pedestrian and bicycle path, sidewalk, the driver of an electric micromobility vehicle must give way to pedestrians, must not obstruct or pose a danger to them, and is allowed to drive right past the pedestrian at a speed that is close to the speed of pedestrian movement, leaving such a gap on the side to ensure the safety of traffic.
If the driver of an electric micromobility vehicle driving on the roadway needs to turn left, turn around or cross the road to the other side, it is recommended to get off the electric micromobility vehicle and cross the roadway while pushing or carrying the electric micromobility vehicle, if the traffic conditions require it.
The driver of an electric micromobility vehicle, when approaching the place where it is necessary to cross the carriageway, must in all cases reduce the driving speed and may proceed only if he is sure that it is safe to drive.
The driver of an electric micromobility vehicle, intending to cross the roadway where traffic is not regulated or where there are no traffic priority road signs, must give way to vehicles travelling on the roadway, except for the cases when crossing the exits from areas near the road, residential area, yard, parking lot, when crossing the roadway into which other drivers are turning.
When driving on a bicycle path, drivers of electric micromobility vehicles must ride as close as possible to the right edge of this path (the part of the path intended for them). If the part of this path or sidewalk intended for bicycle traffic is marked with marking lines (white bicycle symbol) on a pedestrian and bicycle path or sidewalk, drivers of electric micromobility devices must drive only on it and as close as possible to its right edge.
In places where traffic is regulated by traffic lights, drivers of electric micromobility vehicles must obey traffic lights with a bicycle symbol, and when there are no traffic lights, traffic light signals.
