Which licence categories can you study for independently?

Passenger cars — category B.

Motorcycles — categories A1, A2 and A.

Scooters — category AM.

Quadricycles — category B1.

Drivers licensed for category D1, D1E, D or DE vehicles who wish to obtain, respectively, a category C1, C1E, C or CE licence, and vice versa.

How do I register for an exam at Regitra?

Once you have learned the driving theory, you can register for the theory exam online or by visiting a Regitra branch.

You must bring the following documents to the exam:

1. An identity document;
2. A valid driver’s medical certificateconfirming that your health and psychophysiological abilities are suitable for driving vehicles in the relevant category or categories;
3. A health-knowledge certificateconfirming completion of the compulsory first-aid training programme;
4. A valid driving licence, if one has previously been issued to you.

If you fail the exam, you may take it again only after 7 days. This gives you enough time to review the Road Traffic Rules and practise with KETBILIETAI® tests.

However, this does not replace the mandatory practical-driving hours with a professional instructor at a driving school. For example, category B requires 30 academic hours of practical driving tuition. You therefore cannot prepare for the practical exam entirely through lessons with a family member.

Can I practise category B driving with my father?

Yes. A father is considered a family member. For legal purposes, family members include spouses; parents; a man and a woman who have registered their partnership in accordance with the law; their children and adopted children; siblings; grandparents; and grandchildren.

However, a learner’s uncle or husband’s brother is not considered a family member and may not teach the learner to drive.

For guardians and carers, children placed under their guardianship or care in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania are considered family members.
